How Often to Sterilize Bottles and Pump Parts?
For most healthy babies, routine sterilizing/sanitizing of bottles and pump parts is not necessary. This used to be recommended when water sources were more prone to contamination but thanks to advances in public health, we have come a long way! Instead, a good wash in warm soapy water (with dedicated basin and brush) and air drying is adequate for most babies. If your baby is less than 2 months, the CDC recommends sterilizing bottles daily if desired for extra protection.
In general, you should sterilize in these circumstances:
✅ Before using the bottles/pump parts for the first time.
✅ If baby is immunocompromised for any reason (prematurity, medical concerns).
✅ After sickness.
✅ If there are concerns about contaminated water quality.
