Avoid Lanolin for Nipple Pain
Lanolin is frequently handed out in hospitals for painful and damaged nipples but studies do not prove lanolin to be an effective treatment and actually may even cause further issues due to its potential for allergic reactions!! Instead of lanolin, I recommend the following:
🌵 For dryness/sensitivity: Use olive or coconut oil to moisturize.
⚡️For sensitivity: Use Silverettes to protect from brushing up against clothing, spend as much time as possible without a bra to reduce friction.
🩸For damage/cracks/bleeding: Use Medihoney, a medical grade honey that has been sterilized and is wonderful for wound healing! Apply after nursing/pumping and wipe off any residue prior to nursing.
✅ For general discomfort: Express breast milk and allow to air dry on nipple for natural wound healing, soothing, and antibacterial properties.
